I have been interviewed a few times, and yes there's definitely a skill to it.
That may appear the same, but the key is to make the interviewee relax and talk naturally, otherwise it sounds awfully uncomfortable and fake. Put the camera on a tripod, start recording, switch off the small record LED ( in the menu ) so that the interviewee does not have a consistent reminder that they are being recorded, and then position yourself to the right / left of the camera and just start talking to them. First, I understand the average joe is gathering info to try to make an informed call that is right for them. I am sure many folks only know what they have read in many wedding mag articles about marriage videography and photography.
